Herpes lesions tend to burn, itch, and are painful. You can have herpes for years without knowing or becoming symptomatic. And you can also spread it to others when you're not symptomatic, too. (That's usually how it spreads.)

It usually looks like an ulceration, kind of like a canker sore on the genitalia. Bumps are common in the vaginal area and are not necessarily indicative of a sexually transmitted disease. Large bumps can sometimes be genital warts, which is an STD.

Best bet is if you're in doubt, go see your doc. Free health clinics are usually a good place to get treated for an STD. They see a lot of them, they don't know you, and it's cheap.

But please, go get seen by a doc so that you can prevent infecting others and so your possible condition doesn't progress any further or cause other issues. You'd be surprised what types of conditions can be caused in the later stages of some STD's.

Good luck!

You can't tell without getting tested. There is no invisible wall that the herpes virus can't pass. It can appear on your thighs, buttocks, legs, eyes, mouth and other places. This is why condoms are not an effective method to preventing the spread of herpes.

Get tested. Plain and simple. You need to ask specifically for a Western Blot test. It is the most reliable of herpes tests. Getting tested for STDs does NOT normally include tests for HSV, HPV or HIV. You need to ask for these tests specifically.

If it is herpes it forms a blister then breaks, and becomes raw. It will burn and sting like mad if you get anything on it. You may just have a zit. Herpes is caused by a virus. A shaving bump is just and irritated area.
