Really doubt that the U.S. was involved. Bush and the administration are trying to make as many allies as possible over in the Middle East (even though they are doing a terrible job of it so far). If I had to guess, it was someone trying to assert their authority and power among the political elite in India since Gandhi's relative has now recently gotten political power and become one of the most powerful women leaders of any country in the world.

I would not rule out the possibility. As part of its global TerrorStorm scheme, US Administration could blow up the Vatican even. With the help of allies and the West and Nazi Israel, US is succefully creating this atmosphere of terror, constant fear, choas and mayhem, in order to control the world.
