Chess is really fun :) I started playing at 7 and I've always enjoyed that game. I was even in my hometown's representative chess team for a while just before I graduated. I was the only girl but it was ok. The guys were nice and seemed to like 'my style' - well, I never lost a game on a tournament... sweet nostalgia...
However, since I went to university and especially since I started my job I've been having difficulties finding a partner and the time for a good game of chess. Actually, I haven't played for a couple of years now...
My point is, don't bother about insignificant things, just enjoy the game if you have the opportunity :)) It can do you no harm, anyway :)

This is a difficult question. Most people out there are pretty big closet geeks. Whether it is cars, sports, womanizing, shopping, people have passion for things in their life. The funny thing is that when people get really into that stuff, it’s called and addiction. With intelligent things like reading, chess, etc. it is called being a geek. The main question you have to ask is how does it affect your life.
I know tons of people that have real “geeky” habits. Chess, WOW, Everquest, Comics, the list goes on and on. The dividing line between these people and “geeks”, is how it affects there outside life. Most of the people are well liked, fun, and good drinking buddies. They don’t let it control them, it is just something they enjoy. However, I know people that would rather stay at home and play video games online than go out and meet girls at a bar(probably get shot down fast, but at least the former are improving their people skills).
I think you can see where this is going.
If you like chess that is F’ing great, if someone really rattles you about it, have the self confidence to not let it get to you. Let it be apart of what makes you who you are. But whatever you do, don’t get all smarty pants with people and become obsessed with chess. Because then you will become a Geek.

Only if you want it to. By that, I mean that it is up to you to decide who you are, and how you identify yourself. The secret to being cool is to not let anyone else define who you are. Choose to live with integrity, and to love and accept yourself, and others will follow suit.
Take a cue from the lowly, uncomplicated pawn who has the potential to become a force to be reckoned with by choosing who it will be... You don't have to accept any labels, or get closed into other people's preconceived notions about who you should be. Just do your thing, and be true to yourself, and you'll never be a nerd.

No it just means you are smart and enjoy sharpening your problem solving skills. As I've said before you can't be a nerd unless you've decided what color your light saber would be.
