Is it me, or does it look like something fishy is goin on? A tropical depression was about to form in the tropics recently, then all of a sudden it broke up and became disorganized. Do you think the government would secretly test a method of destroying hurricanes? It would be worth it to them, after the damage done by Katrina and all... If someone has a scientific explaination as to why the depression broke up, you'll have answered my question too.

And nature has never done that?!?! Just because this is YOUR first time hearing about a storm drastically fading doesn't mean its never happened before and definitely doesn't warrant conspiracy theories like that beauty.

While we one day may have the technology to weaken a hurricane before landfall, the government is very hesitant to test them for two reasons.

1. We really can't know how effective they are. Hurricanes naturally fluctuate in intensity... how can we know that our method weakened the hurricane, or it was just a natural process?

2. What if the hurricane strengthens as a result of our technology? The government doesn't want that responsibility hanging over its head.

YIKES! Do people actually BELEIVE things like this?????

There is a something called the "Jet Stream" It is a fast moving "river" of air.

This windsheer will break up a TD before it can develop. Also, the ocean is COOLER than it was last year. That is a factor for the development of hurricanes and tropical storms.

I don't understand why folks think we puny humans can effect the weather. We CAN'T!!

No. No government on Earth has the ability to fully disrupt hurricane formation. They have been able to "seed" the clouds on a variety of meterological experiments in the past 4 decades (using a silver nitrate solution), but the effects on the storms themselves were very minimal.

The reason Chris petered out was because it didn't have enough energy to sustain its velocity (1), because the trade winds were strong at that latitude (2), and not the surrounding environment wasn't condusive for further storm development. (3) (The waters have to be at 80 degrees or higher to fuel these massive storms. The Atlantic waters around where Chris died out simply were to cold.)

No chance. The energy involved in a hurricane exceeds anything that can be produced artificially.

No, I don't believe that. Storms become unstable and die out all the time. It's pretty common and has nothing to do with the government.....although that would be nice.

It's possible. Places like China have the tech to change the weather so it can rain.

Though the gov. has a lot of secrets, it's a pretty slim chances they control the weather... yet. They just got lucky.
