This was pretty easy...

1. "Short" becomes "Shorter" when you add -er to the end.
2. M, A, M, J, J, A, S, O, N - First letter of each month beginning with March, the last one listed is October, so the next letter is N for November.
3. Use the basic algebraic equation: 2X = 1/4X + 14. X = 8, so the answer is 8.
