I am a hunter. A poor one at that, but maybe it isn't acquiring happiness that is important, rather the chase to attain it.

Or maybe I'm just a sad, dreaming fool straying from reality.

you're acceptable, nutrition "chains" are actual nutrition webs, with predator/prey interactions among and between stages. Apex predators do exist in organic platforms besides the undeniable fact that. In India and elements of Asia for instance, tigers are (or were) on the properly of the nutrition internet. contained in the oceans (reckoning on the geographical region) both orca or large white sharks occupy the apex predator position. EDIT: As Skookum said, creation of an unique predator into an surroundings can "create" an apex predator. the following in New Zealand for instance we haven't any community mammalian predators. The creation of stoats, cats and dogs on the instantaneous positioned those species on the properly of community nutrition webs. EDIT back: appears like there's slightly confusion around the definition of "predator". A predator is an animal which hunts and kills yet another animal for nutrition. The operative words indexed decrease than are "kill" and "nutrition". Viruses and micro organism are pathogens, no longer predators: those use hosts to copy their genetic cloth, no longer for nutrition (and larger regularly than not do not kill the host). Parasites (leeches, mosquitos etc) do feed on their hosts yet ideally do not kill them. the get at the same time of the dolphins torpedoing the shark is protective behaviour to guard the pod: they'd no purpose of eating the shark and were likely attempting tochronic it off truly than fantastically attempting to kill it. that is no longer predation.
