Each character is egged on to violence, Othello by Iago who drives him to murder by persuading him that his love, Desdemonda, is unfaithful, and Macbeth driven to kill by his wife, Lady Macbeth, whose avarice and ruthlessness exceed his own. Get the "Tales of Shakespeare" by Chares and Mary Lamb. They make the stories exciting and comprehensible though they do water down things and take liberties with characters and plot to some extent. Byt if you had the story first, got a sense of the drasma at play, you might want to tackle the actual plays--even better, see Polanski's Macbeth if you are a usual fan of shakespeare. He makes it moody and gruesome enough to keep your interest and you;'ll certainly learn the story. Do check out some of the terrific soliloquies--but really Saespeare was to be played not read, so if a movie is the closest you can get to thast, I say great. Ronald Coleman was in a wonderfully hammy but clever take-off on the play called double identity. He gets so immmersed in the role that he ends up srangling his fellow actress on stage. Orson Welles did a Macbeth movie that was a critical success. /and U bekueve there's a Lawrence Olivier Othello on film. A movie called O contemporized the story, making the Othello character a basketball player whose friend keeps trying to sabatoge his romance.

Long story short-
Othello and MacBeth were the best of friends. They went to school together, worked together, hung out together, etc. As happens in most stories, a woman came between them. MacBeth called Othello a racial slur, their friendship was on the rocks. But the wise grandfather who lived nearby counseled Othello and told him he was what he was and he shouldn't hate MacBeth for it. Othello saw the error of his ways and he and MacBeth made up. MacBeth got the girl they had fought over, but Othello soon found a beautiful wife for himself. Her name was Hamlet. The two happy couples lived happily ever after.
I left out alot of details, but that is the jist of it.

Othello: A jealous employed guy (Jago) makes a conspiracy to ruin Othello's career and private life.
Macbeth: A man kills another to become the king. However, the deceased's ghosts haunts him...
Read the plays for details. They are worth it.

If you want a brief but good summary of any Shakespeare play search for Charles and Mary Lamb. Their summaries have been used for over 200 years and are very good and easy to read.

Macbeth wants to become king, so he and his wife construct a plan to kill the king so that they will be promoted to king and queen...it all goes haywire...oh at the beginning, some witches tell him that he will be in a position of great power or something and he decides that its the king's position.
