Well, Beav, the cagers just don't know any better. When Jesse first got on TV and the little twinkie at the drugstore started talking bike fab, I knew the sport was in trouble.
And them other goobers are just status whores. Look who buys them. If they could stand out like like a snowflake in a coal sack by driving a Mercedes, that's what they'd be doing. They don't care that, as far as motorcycles go, they're taking a screwing.
I'm brand loyal, but I don't care what you're riding when I wave to you way and hell out in the country on a two lane road. The fact that you're there means you're a rider, and I've never seen one of those 70K lifestyle enhancers out there.

Actually, the theme bikes you see on TV are more in the $150-250K range. The $70K bikes are the regular production bikes from West Coast Choppers and OCC!
The theme bikes are not meant to be used like regular motorcycles, but rather are show pieces commissioned by some big corporation or wealthy individual to prove how cool they are. It's the same thing with these million-dollar "hot rods" that people drool over at all the car shows... They will be trailered from one show to the next, and parked behind a rope for people to look at, but not touch. They're kind of like modern art, only made out of steel and fiberglass rather than paint on canvass.
The guys who build them may not be the world's greatest mechanics (or human beings, for that matter), but you've got to give them credit as artists.

Hah! "Billet barge" -- that's a great phrase.
When they crawl out of their cage and use their "winch-o-matic" to off-load their theme-machine from the carry-compartment in their Winnebarge-o, these poor bowbs actually believe they are bikers.
They seldom actually ride (even when the weather is fine), which is probably a good thing for the real bikers on the road. And when they do, it is only to the nearest Hooters.
So what fun do they get out of motorcycles, if they can't ride them, you ask? Well, as father of three girls, I can tell you my daughters have gotten endless fun out of dressing up their Barbies. I don't pretend to understand the attraction in putting a sparkly frock on a plastic mannequin, but it makes them happy, and keeps Mattel in business.
So, if I might, let me suggest that you have already answered your question. I would just add one word: "Billet Barge Barbies". It makes them happy and keeps those moronic Tuttles in business.
Great phrase, again. Thanks.

Art is art, but I want a scoot that is a daily rider, like my rigid Pan. These glam bikes would get shook to pieces by the potholes here in Western Pa.

Because they look kewl. Same reason some people buy cars that ride like krap...for looks, not comfort. I'm sure there are some out there that are groovy rides too...but there's nothing wrong with admiring something due to its appearance...that's why the things are designed anyway...y'know? For looks... *shakes head*

I keep seeing the word "art".
Oh, well- beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say.
I couldn't ride one without worrying about something.
Uni-bits and hammers? Not on my new ride, thank you.
