For sure, it's the New York Rangers. After 8 seasons of over priced teams that came nowhere close to making the playoffs, they finally realized their mistakes. Teams do not win by signing a superstar for every line.Even if the salary cap weren't implemented they would have overhauled their system of constructing a team. They made the playoffs last year, and are now poised to overtake the Atlantic division. All Hail Jaromir Jagr, the REAL MVP of '05-'06

I'd say it's the Wings in the West. They're a lot younger now and have learned a lot from their first round playoff exit. Also, Dominik Hasek is a great addition to their goaltending. I could see them winning the President's trophy again.
Montreal Canadiens in the East. They've locked up their # 1 goalie for two years plus Aebischer for insurance. Added Samsonov. Fast and young team.

In the eastern conference it would definitely have to be the Pittsburgh Penguins because of Sidney Crosby because he is the #1 player in the NHL. In the western conference it would be the st. louis blues. hope it helps!

The Blues have really tried to step it up (anything would have been an improvement). I don't know about their leading potential but if you talk about just improving the Blues are worth a consideration.....
