about 10 min ago i was going to take my contacts out, but when i went to hop over a pile of stuff on my floor, my big toe hit an etch a sketch, but i thought it was just another injury. but i couldnt put any weight on it and my mom says to call her tomarrow if there is still pain, and my brother says thats a way to tell.

it hurts so bad and i dont whine about pain unless it makes me limp when i walk.

and also if its broken, does it feel warm with shooting pain?

Sometimes you can walk on broken bones or not even know it! The best thing you should probably do is just go to the ER and get a x-ray to be on the safe side. But if you see a bruse come up and you still have major pain go to the ER very soon because you could get a infection and have to get your toe amputated, you wouldnt see that til about a week later though so dont worry!

Broken Toe X Ray

Get some ice. This will bring down the swelling, and reduce your healing time. for a toe I'd ice for 5 mins .. not a whole lot of circulation in the toes and fingertips so don't overdo it.

Do this regardless of the type of injury, just reduce the swelling.

Now how to tell if you have a broken bone. The quickest and easiest way to tell is to use a tuning fork. I usually use a couple of 512 and 128 tuning forks to detect a fracture. If it's broke, it'll send you through the roof. The vibrations from the handle of the tuning fork vibrate the perioesteum of the bone causing pain. If you don't have a tuning fork, put your toe in front of a speaker (woofer preferably) the vibrations from the speaker will vibrate the bone as well.

Actually diagnosed a fractured elbow at a night club. A friend slipped on the ice outside a club before coming in. The person stated the pounding of the music was hurting his elbow. X-ray confirmed the fracture at the hospital later that night

Good Luck

Broken Toe Xray

2016-12-16 11:11:48 · answer #4 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

I broke my toe 3 weeks ago. It was really bad though and completely pointing in another direction of the rest of my toes. They did x-rays and re-set it and gave me a special boot to wear, crutches, and taped the toe to my other toes. If your toe is not pointing in another direction it might still be broken if you have pain everytime you try to move it and mine was also swollen. I could still move it though. If you go to the doctor they will do an x-ray and let you know. But if it is not disformed in anyway, just tape the toe to your other toes for a few weeks and it should heal on it's own.

It will require an x-ray for certainty. If you are unable to bear weight on the foot or experience extreme pain, go to the nearest Emergency Room. An interesting thing about broken toes is that they are rarely (if ever) set using a cast. There could feasibly be bone shards that will need to be dissolved using medication (pills) taken to reduce the damage to muscle tissue and connective tissue in the toe and or surrounding areas. It could feasibly be 'stoved up'; however, if you are planning on waiting around in hopes that it will get better, remember that if a certain time frame is passed...they have a more difficult time treating it.

You have to get an Xray. Two years ago I broke my foot and didn't go to the doctor for 2 weeks because everything I read said I would KNOW if I broke my foot. I have a high tolerance for pain so I didn't think it was broken maybe just sprained or something. It hurt if I put pressure on it and it swole up with black and blue bruises all over it up to my ankle. I finally went to the doctor because it started burning when I was trying to sleep and I couldn't sleep. It turned out it was a pretty bad break.

The only way to tell if the bone is broken is to have an x-ray. There is no treatment for a broken toe, no splint or cast is used. It may be taped for comfort. All you can do is control the pain!!

An XRay is the only confirmation for a broken bone and I do suggest getting one. However, unless it's shattered or a really bad brake- they ER doc's will tape it to the toe next to it and ice. But definately, get the xray.

Is it turning pretty colors? That would be a good clue. Ice it. Tape it. Ice will help the swelling/make it feel better. Tape will help make putting your weight on it tolerable. That's all they'd do at the doctor anyway. Why pay the co-pays?
