what im asking is if it is being accepted by the scientific community.

It's certainly being actively researched, because it holds much promise. As to whether it's being accepted by the scientific community, the jury's still out. They probably need a breakthrough.

M-theory, an extension of string theory, is highly touted in Brian Greene's "The Fabric of the Cosmos" (2004) which was reviewed as the best popular description of state-of-the-art cosmology as we enter the 21st century.

it is same thing as String Theory, and seems alive but on the fringe of modern science.

"M theory" is very much alive, but so far is nothing more substantial than a system of extremely complex mathematics.
