I just had this yesterday, you cannot have any food before you take this blood test, but you can drink water, in fact they suggest that you drink a lot of water so that the blood is easier to get out of you.

Usually nothing to eat or drink 8 hours or 10 So the next morning when they draw your blood they can check your glucose level in your blood and do more studies on your blood count...

a fasting blood test is a blood test where you are not allowed to eat or drink prior to taking the test. the actual time prior is up to your doctor. also some require that you also do not wear makeup, brush your teeth, or even drink water. you gotta ask your doc to get into the specifics of it.

Basically blood sugar testing from a person that has not eaten anything for 12hrs. No sweet drink too... only water.

this is when blood is taken to determine your glucose levels after you haven't eaten or drank for at least 12 hrs. it's a baseline and normal fasting is between 80-100
