I've had about 20 jobs in the last three years and I can tell you that when an employer checks your work history it is only the references and jobs listed on your resume unless you're applying for a Federal or law enforcement job.
Even if a regular employer does a background check they are normally checking your credit and criminal record.

It really depends on what programs the employers have to use. In my office (I work in HR) we have multiple programs to choose from. If we have any speculation about the person or some sort of red flag comes up, we can use a program to do a deep research of the person's employment history. It is true though, if a person wishes to have some sort of government or state job, EVERYTHING is looked at.

i dont think a potential employer checks you work history it doesnt mean that well report all jobs.ofcourse not its only on your resume.the reason why the employer checking your work history just to make sure if they hired you that means thier company are more secured on what potential migth gonna happened.what if they hired somebody and then they dont even no that the person got hired is killer.or something involved to any crime.

They get all of your information through the IRS if they do a thorough background check. Usually, they only check the jobs you listed on your Resume.

Most companies do not have or use the resources required to check someones complete history.
So, most will only check the references you provide them with.
