if you dont care budgetwise. id say a cruise or something to an island. anybody would LOVE that.

What everyone wants is to feel loved and appreciated. People in their 40's would appreciate most a flower and a note / card written "by the heart" of dear friend. Thank her (and God) for being in your life and for giving you her precious love and friendship (which is very rare nowadays) and let her know that you will always be there for her.
In ebay they have very good auctions for new jewellery (designers). You can buy her a Tiffany jewel from the "hearts collection" for much less!! And it will be much appreciated!!
