I'm on a tight budget and decided to replace my old Nvidia Geforce 2 MX 400 card to a new video card that can support Direct X 9. I have set my eyes on either an Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 or an ATi Radeon 9550. I have read that the ATi Radeon 9550 completely supports DX9 due to an agreement with Microsoft, unlike the Geforce FX series. I also read pros and cons about the two video cards. Which card is more preferable, considering the issues, the two cards have presented to current users of those cards, and performance-wise?

Personally i would say go Nvidia Geforce, is your MoBo APG or PCI-E if your going to buy a 5200 think about a few extra £ or $ and go for a Geforce 6600GT AGP or PCI-E this is a much better card and can Handel most games, I'm guessing you need APG have a read see link, Cybercat.

I have tried the nvidia geforce fx 5200 and it is awesome! it supports directx 9 without any problems. I even played need for speed most wanted on it! I have installed more than 5 cards on different computers, and it gave me excellent performance on all computers. Get the nvidia without any hesitation, trust me excellent performance and works with most games.

Geforce has much better performance than the ATi. Geforce also supports Direct X 9 big time. I recommend the GeForce over the ATi.

Go for GeForce FX5200. Try also going online to see if you can get a newer video card for the same price you were going to cough up to buy this one. I would always look at (newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, zipzoomfly.com, mwave.com). Plus once you purchase a GeForce video card. Download CoolBits and overclock it. Hehhehehehee, more power to the overclockers of the world.

I looked at some benchmarks and while they are fairly close, the ATI is slightly better.
