Having lived in 38 states and on 4 continents, I can say without any hesitation that the best city in the world, in my opinion, is Grand Rapids, Michigan.
I've been on the east, west, and gulf coast. I've lived in Cuba, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Panama, Japan, and Canada. They all have their good points and bad points, but I chose G.R. as home because it has a great job market, low taxes, low crime, excellent nightlife, family environment, doesn't flood, doesn't get earthquakes, doesn't get hurricanes, doesn't have forest fires out of control...
My brother bought a 3 bedroom house in Massachusettes last year for 350,000. I just bought a 4 bedroom 2 story 106 year old classic of a house for 89,000. Original oak floors, stairs, windows, and trim. Beautiful home. I have nearly twice the square footage as he does.
Sure, I like vacationing in a lot of places, but there's no place like home.
