LMAO!! Wow, have I been there!! I understand! I work in an upscale rest. and people think they own the joint. But, if they don't want lettuce, then they should say so. (have it your way....lol) Sometimes the chefs just put all the "stuff" on the side of the dish even though it says "plain". Fills the plate, I guess, so it looks nice. I, personally, have never run into anyone allergic to lettuce, though. lol.
People like to complain about anything that they didn't have anything to do with (get it???) It makes them feel important.
I smile, say - in my sweetest voice - Sure, whatever you want sweetie. How about another drink or dessert on the house? (ooooh, that gets 'em!!!) See, go overboard to make up and they feel like a schmuck, and all you're trying to do is make them happy. (hmm..bigger tip?????) 'Cause you went all out, they compliment you and come back (sorry) but that's the life of the server.
Just don't get overwhelmed by stupid people. Bite your tongue, go in the back, vent, & come out smiling.
See the movie "Waiting" ??

Well, as someone that typically asks for modifications to the meals, I do understand the reasoning behind the requests.
For me it's simple, there are some foods that I just do not like. They typically make me gag and I don't want them touching my food as it would then ruin the taste for me and thus the whole experience that I am paying for.
For some, it might also be allergies or even just a general dislike or like of things a certain way.
That being said, I am typically annoyed a little if I make a request such as no vegetables or things on the side, and the request is ignored.
I don't typically make a big deal out of it if it's something that I can easily change. Like moving vegetables off to a side dish or giving them to someone else.
But since there are some foods that I just can't eat, and they will actually disrupt the food by getting the taste all over it, I will request that the dish be fixed if I requested in advance that it was done a specific way and it wasn't.
I don't have a cow about it, as I understand that mistakes are made, and I'm typically very polite when I ask, but it can be frustrating when an error is made and now everyone else is eating while you wait for the fix.
Overall though, I'm not a fan of anyone going overboard in the reaction department.
Love as always,
Sebastian

Yes, it is weird. I guess I wouldn't even notice such little difference in my food. For me, a thing I won't accept is not well done meat and I always ask for that explicitely. But you're absolutely right...such a mistake is no reason to freak out.
I wonder why so many people get overheated so easily. Why not be friendly and just say what is on your mind. It also increases your chance of getting a smile in return instead of an unfriendly face :)

I was a waitress for many years and aside from the usual jerk, I loved my job. Some people live their lives being miserable and they want to take it out on everyone around them. Instead of being a victim to their attitudes, I choose to laugh it off and move on. If people have a cow over a peice of lettuce, there are deeper issues going on that I don't even want to deal with!!

Unless it's something you'd have a horrible allergic reaction to, or its against your religion. I agree whats the big deal! Yeah my Mom like that, she's always making a fuss if things aren't perfect. I can understand maybe if your at a really expensive restaurant, but at a fast food place come on. I want to climb under the table. So I know how it is.

In some cases I can agree with you but when you order something with no mayo and get it anyway how the hell are you supossed to take it off. You still have the taste on the burger or whatever.

People are so bizarre and anal about things. If they would just realize that it is ONE meal out of their entire life. Get over it people!
You are correct in what you are saying, but I have never been a server so I don't know what the answer is.
