the idea of vtec was the best of both worlds. a high performance cam for when you want it, and a low consumption cam for when you want mileage.

They do perform better than the non vtec engines, but dont get any better of mileage.

vtec means once u hit the 5000+ rpm range u r dumping gas like crazy. vtec eats just as much gas as a v8

yes they do.
The Variable Timing Electronically Controlled is so accurate, much better than the original timing with vacuum advance on old cars.

yes vtec gives better mileage because better time.

The new iVTEC engine is giving me about 40 mpg, mostly on the highway. The acceleration is there when needed and the economy is great.

no, they don't get better mileage. the performance is from super-poor to crappy. just my opinion.
