My boss seems to think it is being cool to tell jokes using the n-word and I'm a black person. He thinks it means he's not a racist but I'm his employee, not his drinking buddy. Should I report this because it does make me uncomfortable or should I let it go and find another job?

Neither, get him alone in private and tell him how you feel.
Have another job lined up.

Try pulling him off to the side and tell him how you feel but don't do it in front of other employees because he may get insulted then really kick you to the curb. It's happened to me in a similar way. If that doesn't work then report it to the higher up.

I trust you one hundred% The N note is racist on each and every side. would not matter whose mouth it comes from, that is nevertheless an same which ability. i'm bi racial (black mom white father) and that i do not use the N note in any respect. no human being might want to. no human being might want to apply cracker both. both words are offensive to both activities. those youthful boys might want to no longer pay interest of their heritage training too properly because in the adventure that they did they could comprehend that the N note turned right into a time period specifically contained in the south that degraded black human beings and made them experience like crap on the bottom of trainers. Black human beings had to strive against to grow to be equivalent. human beings died, were given beaten, hung, e.t.c. to grow to be equivalent. Now you're equivalent and what do you do to pay off appreciate on your ancestors? You call one yet another the note N note. How astonishing. i imagine cracker, n note, beanier, orange picker e.t.c. are racist , unnecessary, and hurtful. maximum of them do it to be cool yet seem stupid as hell. it is a shame. I also do not go jointly with those who use those variety of words.

First you look for another job and then when you find another one put in your two week notice and report them to the Board of Labor in your area and they will be investigated. And mabe contact your local chapter of the NAACP and see what strings they can pull I'm not sure where you live but I live in the south and this is ohhhh to common and they need to be punished if we used racial slurs we would be the first one fired but if they do it they think it is funny.Goood Luck

Well, hon that must be real tough. But if you're going to quit jobs over people's words, then you really have a long way to go. I know how it feels because I'm African myself. Nobody can make you feel small without your permission.. that's one thing I know. Don't let it get to you. But if it's that bad maybe you should change and hope for the best....

I was in a kind of similiar situation. I am Jewish but my ex girlfriends brother is a huge anti-semite. Whenever I would go over to her house I would have to listen to him bad mouthing Jews. He knew it annoyed me and made me feel VERY uncomfortable but he did it anyway.

I assume your boss is not black. If he knows you can hear his stupid jokes, that is more than rude, that is completely unprofessional and insulting. It isn't appropriate to say those kind of jokes in the workplace whatsoever but to say those types of things in earshot of a minority employee is completely abdominable. I would report him ASAP...Maybe they can find a way to deal with him without him finding out who reported him.

Good luck.

If your company has a human resources department, you need to immediately go see them and report this. If they do not, then you need to immediately escalate this to the next person on the ladder.

That type of behavior is not appropriate for the work place.

First, you must bring it to his attention, preferably in the company of other coworkers and explain to him that you don't appreciate this. Document the date and time of this. At this time you can report him to HR. Document all instances of him using the n word!
