I'm not a lesbian, but I think the hardest thing about being one would be the fact that if you lose your lover....you lose your bestfriend, too.

I mean, we all say that our boyfriend or our husband is our best friend, but really.....they don't come close to your best girlfriend.

Is this the case, for lesbians, if you break up with your girlfriend? Is it twice as devastating as it would be if you were to break up with a man? It just seems like it would be to me.

Thanks for the answers. I think I was looking at it the wrong way, and assuming that lesbian relationships were different from heterosexual ones. I don't know why I thought that.

I guess I was thinking that two women would have a deeper understanding of each other than a man and a woman.

I shouldn't assume that you wouldn't have the same type of relationship with your best friend than I have with mine.

Makes sense now. :)

My best friend is my girl! She is my everything and I love her more than life itself. I can talk to her about anything! I would be lost without her.

Sadly in some cases of break ups of lesbians it tends to get more emotional and psycho than a straight break up.

I doubt you'll get the same answer from all lesbians, or for that
matter, that all heterosexuals would agree with you.

That is, some heterosexual women really do like male friends
better than female ones.

Some homosexual women really do like male friends better
than female ones - and some will actually have a best friend
that is NOT their lover.

It is FAR more complex than "female minds think alike so
female friendships will be stronger than male-female friendships."
In some cases, that is just not true.

From my own personal experience there's always been a huge emotional/ best friend bond with my girlfriends....and the breakups were never easy. So yes, I'd say it's a lot like loosing your best friend too. Fortunately for me, after some healing time a lot of my ex-girlfriends and I realized we still had that best friend connection to fall back on and have remained close friends.

Well actually I'm bi. But the first (and only girl) I was sorta with was a friend. When she decided she didn't want to be friends anymore, I lost what I hoped could have been a nice relationship as well as her friendship. So yeah, it's rough.

I think for anyone it would be the same, either way losing a partner/best friend is very hard to get over.

I think it depends on the couple that you're speaking about. It's always hurtful when you really care about someone you're with and then it all ends, but if you really care about each other then you can try and work at remaining friends, even though it doesn't always work out that way.

True but then again I do have a best friend. It doesnt mean that if one is lesbian, one cannot have another girl as best friend.
