I am travelling to Melbourne near the end of October. I would like to know if anyone can recommend a car rental agent that offers fair prices for unlimited kms. We are flying in and out of Tullimarine Airport (i'm sure I spelt that wrong) and would like to pick up and drop off the car there.

you might try webcarhire.com--I did that while in NZ, and they were very reasonable...and I know they cover Australia too.

Only the major car-hire companies operate out of the airport (ie. Budget, Thrifty, Avis etc). You might be better off catching the Airport Shuttle (Skybus) into the city, then heading to the top end of Elizabeth Street. There's a lot of backpacker facilities in this area, including cheap independent car-hire companies.
