I've had a bunch of friend who were involved in the JET program and had very rich experiences. One of my friends got to teach in Hokkaido, in a town with a fire festival--she learned taiko (Japanese drumming). She just loved being in Japan.

The first link below is information on the JET program through the Japanese Embassy in the US. The second is through the Embassy in Canada. You might find information in one that you don't find in the other.

the first thing you should do is a cambridge CELTA course. It takes 1 month full time. most places will ask for this minimum. you can also do a TEFL certificate. If you want to do this as a career then you should think about doing an MA in either Applied Linguistics or TEFL. www.eslcafe.com and www.eslemployment.com are very good websites to look at. you can search for jobs in japan here, and see what they are asking for.
