Read Toni Weschler's book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". I think it should be required reading for every woman of child bearing age.
Start charting you Basal Temperature. Take you temp first thing in the am - before getting out of bed - at the same time every day. Be sure to use a Basal Body Temperature thermometer.
Use Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs) in conjunction with the charting. OPKs will tell you when you are about to ovulate and the temping should confirm that you did ovulate.
Charting cervical fluid is a good idea too, but in women who don't ovulate regularly it doesn't work as well. So if you cycles are irregular, you may have several patches of fertile cervical fluid where your body is gearing up to try to ovulate. IMO it isn't nasty - it is normal. Your body is functioning as intended.

Every woman has "discharge" here's a simple way to tell you. Keep track of this discharge note the color and everything, yea I know it's nasty but it's the easiest way to tell. When it's a whitish clear color and slightly thick these are your post-ovulation days (days that you have a higher chance of getting pregnant) and when you notice it is very thin like and clear this is your peek ovulation time. (The time when the sperm can live for 72 hours inside you, thus tripiling your chances) Note that a healthy fertile couple still only has a 25% chance of becoming pregnant each month so don't give up or become discouraged.

When a woman ovulate, there is like a mucus discharge which looks like egg white. This usually happens between the 12th to 14th day after your period (if you're on 28 days cycle). You can buy the ovulation test kit if you dont mind spending $ on it. Or you could go to some websites with helpful tools calculator. My fav is www.babycentre.co.uk which is free. Good luck..

Aren't there kits out in stores that you can buy to help tell you when your ovulating? Try buying one of those.
