are you happy too?

No, but I have a very high standard for happiness that supercedes temporary emotional fluctuations and materialistic pleasures. I may feel like I am happy at a particular moment, but then I remember that my happiness is contingent on a particular object or event and I know that I myself am not happy independently even if I feel that way temporarily.

Typically, these types of happiness lead to unhappiness because of how temporary they are. If you have something that makes you happy that you know won't be there permanently, you cling onto it and suffer every time you consider the prospect of it leaving you. If you are without it, then you pine for it and want to have it.

The kind of happiness that I'm looking for may not be had in this lifetime or cultural setting where we are supposed to "live in the moment." I rejoice, though, when my thoughts and actions reflect that I am moving closer to this state of internal, long-term bliss.

Yes, and not just the temporary kind of happy either. I have a great wife whom I love and who loves me. I have a job I like. I have some great friends. I have both an insatiable thirst for knowledge, and the ability to fulfill it. I have many new and unusual experiences on a regular basis. I have what I would consider a pretty comprehensive view of the Big Picture. I'm an optimist in the future, based on the progression of the past. I'm not one to dwell on negative emotions. My life is fulfilling.

If I died tomorrow, my one regret would be that I didn't live longer!

I think there's a difference between being happy and being comfortable. I'm comfortable now. if I won a billion dollar lottery, I'd be happy! not saying that money is the only thing that would make me happy, it was just an example.

Happiness is a state of mind, it may exist one moment and then disappear the next. It all depends on you.

Rather than saying I'm happy, I'll say that I'm satisfied and content.

Right now I'm neither happy nor sad. I have my happy moments but I'm not happy all the time.

Ian Carlo,

Happiness is so elusive,
and somewhat short lived.

I'm content -- it's harder to
obtain, but it stays with you.

So, the best of two worlds,
reach contentment, and enjoy
those elusive happy moments
when they come.

Be well, stay well

I should be. I have a great mate and beautiful healthy children. I am healthy. I am grateful for all of that but it always feel like something is missing. So I guess my answer is SOMETIMES.
