I blame the Christians. Smoking pot is just another thing they think is wrong that the government should have no right in deciding for the American people. If you want to smoke pot and lose brain cells, then you should be allowed to. Obviously, if you choose to drive while under the influence, then you should be punished...but not for doing pot, but for endangering other citizens.
Pot should be legal, then we could use the money the government spends on Anti-drug campaigns on something useful. Not to mention, they could regulate it, tax it, and those that manufacture it would create new jobs. It would liven up this piss poor economy.

Even if the US decided to legalize pot, there would still be
killings over the drugs. Just because we have decided to
keep alcohol legal, doesn't make it right. Or a good thing.
People are getting killed left and right by drunk drivers.
So, does smoking a doobie on the road make it any safer? NO.
There will always be a drug war....and drunk drivers. Just
becuase we take the $$ aspect or the legal aspect out, won't
make a difference. It's called supply and demand.

I do not use drugs either...but I see where you are coming from. Just another thing for you to think about..Did you know that the U.S. Government created crank? Yep thats right; for the soldiers in Vietnam war, then they made it illegal. I understand that it is bad for you, but how can "they" create, produce and distribute something like that and then when people get hooked make it illegal and think that it is ok? Like I said, I dont use drugs and wouldnt if they were legal....but I just really think that this is crazy.

Late 1930's. I do not advocate smoking marijuana although I smoked it about 20 years. Make it legal? Maybe so that people would not be getting unknown additives such as other drugs or pesticides. It has long term side effects. Perhaps we should be free to loose our motivation, slow our reaction time, reduce our reproductive capacity, pollute our lungs, live on the fringes of drug culture and be exposed to other more dangerous drugs.....?

I don't know the year it was made illegal.I think it was in the 1930s.But other countries are way more strict on drugs than the US.For example, in Australia or Austria about half a year ago 2 people got executed for transporting heroin. In some countries, having drugs(even marijuana) is punishable by death.

1937 with the passing of the Marijuana Tax Act. You're right- it is very strange that our nation based on "personal freedom" has so many personal restrictions, even though many of those restrictions relate to entirely personal issues.
