I am not pregnant- just a curious gal. So, how does contractions feel? How painful is it from the 10inch dialation? Can you describe the pain in some way so I can picture how it feels/ where you feel it because I can't imagine feeling something inside of me open that wide and/or painful *ew* does it feel like a PMS cramp?

Contractions feel like the worst gut rot or diareha pains you could imagine. They start out real slow then get pretty bad. It is'nt 10 inches it is 10 centimeters. I have four children. The dialation does'nt hurt it is the contractions that hurt the most. The pain starts in your lower back and works it's way forward to the sides and bottom of your stomach. Don't let it discourage you from having kids though, because it is worth every ounce of pain! The contractions themselves last about a minute long. It feels like the longest minute of your entire life.

Imagine the worst menstrual cramps you've ever had and multiply that by a thousand!! I had an epidural (pain relief), so I didn't get as far as feeling what 10 was like. But, with my first son, I had to wait a while for the anesthesiologist, so I'd say I got to about 6 or 7. I remember thinking "why do women decide NOT to take the pain killers"?! But, it is true what they say... you really do forget about the pain after it's over. Until someone asks me to describe it, that is. And, by the ninth month, you are so ready to have that baby that you don't even think about pain. :)

Yeah it feels like periodic period cramps at the beginning of labor. But as you progress in dialation the pain gets a hell of a lot worse. Just try to imagine something almost the size of a watermelon coming out of a hole the size of a lemon. And there isn't really any way to describe it. You just have to experience it. But some people say giving birth is the closest a women comes to dying without actually dying (b/c of all the stress and strain your body goes through) Watch the health discovery channel. They have stuff like "A Baby Story" and "Birthday" and they show women giving birth. When you see how they react to the pain it might give you and idea of how bad it hurst. Believe me IT HURTS!!!!

Imagine the worst menstrual cramps you've ever had, multiplied by 100. On top of that, add severe diarrhea cramps (like you'd get if you had food poisoning or the stomach flu) and stir those around in the mix. It's not pleasant.
By the time I got to 10 cm, I had had my epidural, so they weren't nearly as painful. I could manage just fine and even concentrated enough to play cards, watch tv, etc.

women dialate 10 cm. not inches! 10 inches would really hurt!
to answer your question, the pain depends on the person and the situation. i wanted to go natural but had to be hooked up to so many machines i couldnt move around to get any relief from the pain. so i did an epidural so it really didnt hurt much after that.
i am big fan of the epidural and respect women who go without it because giving birth really hurts.

My wife says the pain is almost like pms, but times 10.

HONEY IT IS A PAIN THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET. I HAD FOUR KIDS. THE PAIN WHEN YOUR IN LABOR IS SO BAD YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR GOING TO DIE. IT DOSENT REALLY GET WORSE WHILE YOUR 10 CEN. BELIEVE ME IT'S WORST THEN PMS CRAMPS. THE PAIN IS HARD TO DESCRIBE BECAUSE YOU CAN HAVE BACK LABOR ALSO. IF YOU EVER GET PREGNANT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOMEONE THAT WILL GO TO BIRTHING CLASSES WITH YOU AND ALSO BE IN THE LABOR ROOM BECAUSE YOUR GOING TO NEED SOMEONE TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR BREATHING.................

Its very painful, and its something you NEVER forget
This is 100x more severe than a small cramp from PMS

It feels like you're about to sh*t a brick. lol. I've done it twice,I'm not lying. But once it's over with you never think about the pain again.
