Im getting a promotion soon at work as resort manager and Im expecting to meet with the owners in a couple days. I know that they are going to flatter me with a lot of words of praise, because that is what they have been doing lately. I am very flattered, but when it comes to putting my gratitude into words, i get lost. What can I say to my bosses when they tell me how much they appreciate all my hard work and that they see great potential in me. I think they are going to pay me less than what I was expecting, should I let them know how I feel about that and how should I say it?

First of all, congratulations on your imminent promotion. On the money, you should tell them first that you are excitied and challenged by the job offer. However, you are not able to make ends meet with that low salary. Then, request for some flexibility so that you can start the job at the soonest possible time.

Accept the flattery and let them know how much you appreciate the promotion (be genuine an sincere). And when they talk about your hard work agree that it has been hard but this promotion has made the hard work worth it. And should the promotion be less in pay then you had expected then come back with a counter offer. This counter offer could be done as a formal business letter making sure you provide supportive information for them to consider a larger salary for your new position.

How about:

Thank you. I appreciate your trust in me. I will do my best to meet your expectations.

That is all they can ask of you, after all- and, truly, all you can ask of yourself.

Best of luck to you!

if you are new at your work place, I would recommend for you to take it slowly, don't be to harsh at it... who knows, you might get promoted?

A Simple "Thank you" always works.
