The moon exists of a cataclysmic crash that occurred on earth several billion years ago. The crash (probably a meteor) ejected a huge cloud of dust and debris which coalesced over time into a big dirtball which eventually became the moon. It finally settled into orbit and there you have it.
Because of the nearness of the moon to earth, and due to its size, the moon imposes a gravitational force on the Earth, causing the tidal patterns of the oceans to change in correlation to the moon cycles. The moon is also responsible for a myriad of cyclical changes in the atmosphere and on the life cycles of human beings as well, such as a woman's menstrual cycle.
If the moon were to cease to exist, there would be no more women with PMS every month, and Michael Jackson's famous "Moonwalk" dance would be deemed irrelevant and fade into obscurity. You also wouldn't be able to moon people, and in the nursery rhyme "Hey diddle, diddle", the cow would have to jump over something else while the dish ran away with the spoon.

You might as well be asking why does anything exist the way it does? Some people will try to answer the question by saying that some very powerful God put it there, but that is really no answer at all as it just passes the question on to "Why would God do that?" So we have to leave God out of the picture if we want to really try and answer the question.
If you ever study philosophy you learn that you can create complete sentences that are actually nonsense. A classic nonsense question is "Does the King of France have a beard?" You might protest, "There is NO King of France!" Well, there is no "Why" to your question too. Your question is nonsense but it appears to be a sensible question that fools a lot of people.
Likewise, the moon has NO function. Just as the sun has no function, the universe has no function. They are not parts of a machine that exist there so that the entire machine can run efficiently and purposefully.
So your puzzles come from your ability to ask two questions that are nonsense.
Your third question is not nonsense however. There would be no tides if there were no moon and the earth would become more unstable in its rotation on its axis. The moon acts as a stabilizing force on the earth.

Our moon is the result of an object about the size of Mars that struck Earth billions of years ago. The debris from that impact first formed a ring around Earth and then slowly clumped into a single object that today we call the moon. When it first formed, the moon was only about 14,000 miles from Earth. Today it continues to move away from us at a rate of about 1 inch per year.
If there was no moon there would be no ocean tides on Earth, and the rotational speed of Earth would be different, along with its orbit around the sun.

The gravititional pull of the moon is responsible for the tides.
The moon provides light in the night by reflecting the Sun light back to the Earth.
If there were no moon, we would lose both the above benefits, plus other potentially more serious consequences.

The moon is a by product of the star formation of our sun, as so is the earth and the rest of the solar system. It's function is keeping us from spinning out of control. I there is no moon there would be no life, as we know it, on earth

It is generally agreed that the moon is a part of the earth's substance
ejected long ago into space when a very large celestial body hit the primitive earth.

why ????
this question asserts "purpose" upon an unknown universe, as thoough there is an intentional motivation behind the shape of "reality" as we perceive it.
We can decribe the nature of forces which are described by classical physics, but to discern a cosmic "purpose" is similar to asking how many angels can dance on trhe head of a pin.
"just find a girl ... with far ... away eyes"
