FEDERAL. if you're a criminal in the u.s. the chinese won't care. i taught in south korea and they don't check your criminal records. the other tough step would be anybody with a record like that most likely will be on parole until the turn of the century so i'd forget about it.

I'm not too sure about your record; you would have to contact the Chinese Embassy to see if they would give you a work permit with that background, you have some pretty serious things there.

BUT, I just read an article in Time magazine, a fairly recent issue, no more than a month old, about the really horrible abuses of American & English teachers in China. Really awful, everything from breach of contract to mysterious death. Do lots of research before doing something like this.
