can anyone tell me what war did tennessee have more volunteers than any other state

The phrase about Tennessee being "the volunteer state" comes not from the Civil War but the Texas Revolution where several volunteers, led by Davy Crockett went to aid the rebel American settlers. It's very closely linked to that other great phrase of that war "Remember the Alamo"
