I believe on the scientific explanation for the creation of the Universe. The mathematical conclusions have been proved by observations predicted in the theories and evidence such as the radioactive signature of the Big-Bang discovered in the 60's also confirm these theories.
The Bible gives an amazingly close explanation in terms that a person from 5,000 years ago could understand.
Science can tell us HOW the Universe was created but only religion and philosophy can tell us WHY.

The universe wasn't created. There is no scientific theory of creationism. Creationism is an ancient misconception that confuses natural function with a projected version of human design. We know that the universe came into being in the Big Bang an essentially random process, though one we might have influenced ourselves if the Anthropic Principle is true (thus explaining why the universe seems fine tuned for our existance).
The Bible is at best a metaphor for a more abstract metaphysical explanation of the emergence of the universe and at worst a ridiculous superstion. Though the version we have has been edited and rewritten several times since its first draft.

Well, I was raised Catholic but am no longer practicing. However, I find the bible reasoning behind the creation of the universe a lot more credible than "the big bang theory". Don't get me wrong, the fact that an "entity" created these worlds or what have you still baffles me and I question it. But, like I said it is more believable than pieces of rock and different matter exploding together and making life as we know it.

Actually, I think the two can be reconciled:
1. The universe started with the big bang, but that was an explosion of the entire universe from a single point. Sounds like Genesis to me.
2. God created the universe in 7 days. Are we to assume that the God of all creation limited himself to 7 EARTH days? It could be the rotation of any number of large bodies. We know the Milky Way is a spiral galaxy, why not a spinning universe? And who says he created the different things listed in Genesis at exactly the same point in each of his days?
3. God created man in his own image. I do not know of any Creator, God or otherwise, who is happy with his first draft. He could have easily tried out a few other models until he was satisfied with the final product. And who knows, he might not be satisfied yet--we could still be just another rough draft!

bible because if you compare the 2 science basicly says what the bibles been saying for years i mean serriosly.
scientific theory:the universe was dark and there was nothing and then there was a big bang and all the things were launched out forming the universe including earth but earth was molten lava and it took sometime for it to cool down and then there was life in the ocean and so on and so forth i think you know both so read genisus and yor earth science book one written before modern science and one written in the last 200 years its so obvious

I'm an atheist, so I believe in scientific reasoning. It just makes more sense to me.

I think that it was mainly the scientific reasoning but there is a higher power that got it started.

Science has the right explanation. The bible more or less gives the same explanation but in a more layman's language so that people can understand.

The Bible, because it is based on faith.
So far, Science has no real proof on any theories (big bang, ect). I belive things like evelution, because it has been proven, but I dont see that with the universe orgins.
For someone to belve Science, there has to be proof, not so true for religion.
