I have a lot of examples (I'm a librarian) but alas, your teacher will know you got them from someone else. Chances are, if you "haven't read a lot of stuff", and you start quoting Herman Melville, the teacher going to know you're cheating.

A good example of intertexuality would be New Testament passages that quote from the Old Testament. You can find TONS of those on the web.

Have you read the Harry Potter books? Again, there are tons of examples in those too. Those books rely heavily on folklore and fairy tales. Remember Buckbeak, the Hippogriff from Prisoner of Azkaban?

The Hippogriff was a creature in Greek mythology. See? We have intertexuality! JK Rowling borrowed from an existing myth!

A poem describing the Hippogriff written by Arnold Sundgaard that you may enjoy. (If you use it for your homework, make sure you give credit to the author - this poem is quite famous and your teacher probably has read it!)

"The Hippogriff"

When Mare and Griffin meet and mate
Their offspring share a curious fate.
One half is Horse with hooves and tail,
The rest is Eagle, claws and nail.
As a Horse it likes to graze
In summer meadows doused in haze,
Yet as an Eagle it can fly
Above the clouds where dreams drift by.
With such a Beast I am enthralled,
The Hippogriff this beast is called.

Now you have two examples. The third one, you're on your own (can't do all your work for you!). Hopefully I've put you on the right track. Look at any of the books on your shelf. Even kid's books. You'll find most stories have elements from myths, legends or other stories.

Please start reading more - there's an amazing wealth of knowledge and entertainment in books.

Good luck sweetie!
