In 1960 in the 7th game of the World Series, Bill Mazeroski of the Pittsburgh Pirates hit a homerun off of Yankee pitcher Ralph Terry to wins the Series for the Pirates and he was the first to do this. Nobody was on base as Mazeroski was the leadoff batter. The blast over the left field wall at Forbes field and Yankee Left fielder Yogi Berra won the game 10-9. The MVP for that World Series was from the losing Yankees 2nd baseman Bobby Richardson. Harvey Haddix of Pittsburgh was the winning pitcher.

It was Bill Mazeroski for the 1960 Pirates. He was the first batter that the Yankees' Ralph Terry faced in the bottom of the ninth, and his solo blast gave the Pirates a 10-9 win, and a 4-3 series win.

Maz's homer also made a winner of Harvey Haddix, who had come on in relief in the top of the ninth inning.

Yes its true, Mazeroski was the first to do it but the most memorable one was Joe carter of the Toronto Blue Jays hitting the game winning home run off of Mitch Williams of the Philadelphia Phillie's in game 6 to to give Toronto its first of back to back championships
