Ok, I am in girl scouts. And this summer was the summer when we were suposed to go on our senior trip. Well the leader just happend to pick a week, that I had college summer class finals and was unable to go. She said that was the only week they could they could find a hotel..( in Dallas, Texas) i mean come on tell me theres more than one hotel in Dallas. anyways... now they are saying that since I didn't go with them, that i don't get the money that i earned. ( which was around $650) they (the leaders of my troop) are saying that since girl scouts is whatever it is, they can't give me the money b/c of tax reasons. and that i could donate the rest when they got back, if their was any left. so i was wondering what yall thought...

That's why there is a chain of command
Take your complaint to the boss of these guys and lay out the case that you are being screwed over big time---this is not right and anyone should see it---the Scouts have some pretty sauvy people in the executive chairs and it won't take them long to get to the bottom of this one---after all that is fairly significant money---go kick their butts ---they're using you and you should be fighting back

This depends. Did YOU earn the money specifically for yourself or did you earn the money with the troop? If you earned it for yourself, then you should get it back. I don't think the leaders should have held it for you in the first place. If you earned it as part of the troop working toward a goal, then it is troop money and you are not entitled to any of it. HTH!

I'm not a lawyer but if you raised money for a non-profit group it can't go to you directly. You could only at best take the money and give it away to another non-profit. The money's are donations therefore can not be spent by you.
Good luck

how did you earn the money, was it as part of troop activities? then if it was no you dont own the money, anymore than you got money for yourself for selling cookies, its just tough luck that you didnt speak up when there was planning about your college thing, anyway, its sure not very girlscout like to whine. believe me i know, i was one till i graduated and then i became a leader.

that is not fair at all! im a girl scout, well older than you now, but that's really unfair. scouts is supposed to be about fairness and doing the right thing. they're not right. it's not about money.

hey cute avatar too.. hope everything works out.

Thats BS.
Take it up with them.
Read the rules and find the flaw.
Theres no way the GSA needs 650 from you for tax.
