He's one of my favorite authors of all time! I've read several of his books and they're almost impossible for me to put down once I start reading them. So what i'm wondering is what your favorite Stephen King book is? Mine's The Stand!

"The Stand" is totally awesome. So is "It" and "The Shining."

My favorite SK story of all time, though, is the short story "The Mist" from the collection "Skeleton Crew." A nice apocalyptic tale.

Ironically, the best SK novel in my opinion is a collaboration with another famed horror writer, Peter Straub, called "The Talisman." It spawned a sequel by the two writers called "Black House", but I haven't read that yet.

Have been a Stephen King fan for a bit over 20 years now, have read every one of his books and get them right when they come out. My personal favourite of his isn't one book, it's a series. The whole Dark Tower series was a decade @ least in the making but what a ride! As far as his short stories, try reading The Mist from Skeleton Crew....was so creepy! Have you read the Bachman books? It's his pseudonym when he was writing too much and was worrying his publisher that he'd flood the market and people would get sick of him...thank GOD that wasn't the case, the 4 Bachman books are all fantastic, 2 were even made into movies! Oh ya, also try reading, "The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon".....it's not a classic story or horror book but it is definately different.....the pop up book of it is great too!

My favorite is probably The Shining. The description of the dead girl in the bathtub is absolutely awesome. I love Stephen King. I am also one of the ones that cannot put it down until I finish. There is another author named Ted Dekker. He is the closest I have found to writings like King. I recommend House and Three by Ted Dekker. It may be in the Christian section of the bookstore but you are not bombarded by religion at all so don't worry in case you are not into that sort of thing.

My very favorite Stephen King book is "Gerald's Game!" It gave me the creeps and I couldn't look in a dark corner of my bedroom for the longest time! One of his most bizarre was "Nightmares and Dreamscapes!" It seem almost as if he was hanging around with Clive Barker a little too much! I've read most of his books, but for some reason, I still haven't read the "Dark Towers" series!?

Another one of my favorites is Anne Rice! Clive Barker's fantasy novels are so different than his short stories and you might enjoy them. You should also check out Piers Anthony's "Reincarnations of Immortality" series! It's great!

Have you tried 4 past midnight? Skeleton crew? Two of the greats. The stand was good, too. I have read all of his books except the gunslinger series. Something about a series that turns me off. He is my all time favorite too.

Love his writing - but I'm not his Number One Fan. ; )

I would also choose The Stand as my favorite novel - at any length..
Probably the Shining is my second favorite.
For short story, i think "The Mist" is wonderfully spooky.

for some reason, i have never been able to get into the Dark Tower novels.

I cant get enough of stephen king's books from desperation , carrie and sleepwalkers. I like how he always starts his beginnings with a happy fairytale lifestyle and end with later terror which is so kool.

King is the man. My favorite is Misery, good movie too, but the book is so much better.

Well, you've already picked The Stand, I guess I'll add the Dark Tower series, or The Survivor (short story).
