Yeah, that's fine. The baby is still so tiny they'd need to look at it with a microscope, which obviously they can't do while it's inside you.
Because it's usually not even useful to have an ultrasound so early, many doctor's don't even do them until 2 months or so along. I had my first one at 10 weeks, and if was great, because I could see the little arm and leg buds.
I think that if she had waited another week, there would've been something big enough to see.

Diagnosis and confirmation of early pregnancy.
The gestational sac can be visualized as early as four and a half weeks of gestation and the yolk sac at about five weeks. The embryo can be observed and measured by about five and a half weeks. Ultrasound can also very importantly confirm the site of the pregnancy is within the cavity of the uterus.

Usually the doc gives you an internal sono at that early stage...Like they put this magic wand up you to see the itty bitty baby and other stuff. If you are concerned about what your doc is doing or not doing, ask her more questions about what is going on or get a new doc! :)
congrats on the baby!!!

Check out the site above. There is nothing unusual early on in pregnancy to not see to much going on in there. Your US sounds normal for how early it was done.
You can do a search for pregnancy cycles and it will pull up a lot of diagrams and sites for you.
Congrats and good luck!
