The size of the tatoo, the location and how many different colors all factor in to how painful a tatoo can be. I have had one on my arm that was all black and really wasn't that painful. However if you add colors, the tatoo artist has to use different needles. Different parts of the body are also more sensitive than others, so getting a tatoo on your inner thigh will probably hurt a lot more than getting one on your arm. After a while, the initial shock fades from the tatoo and the body part goes numb. Only when the feeling returns does the pain come. That only lasts a few hours. Hope this was helpful!

I don't think the word "hurt" applies, hurt is smashing your finger with a hammer. I don't think the word pain applies, pain is stubbing your toe on your beds corner leg. DISCOMFORT is more like it, while it is going on. Its a scratching sensation that can get annoying if you focus on it. I've got a couple and yes the location does matter. Arms and back, no problem, legs are a breeze, Chest, inside of the arms, a little irritating. The art work itself also matters. If they have to outline and then go back and fill color and you do it all at once. Well, when they go over the black outline, its slightly a little more sensitive. I have one on my tally, it says ok, it hurt, but when I get excited it reads, oklahoma! On a good day it can read oklahoma city.

Yes. The most painful place is the small of the back just above the buttcrack..And anywhere theres no fat or muscle, like wrist or ankle. I hear it hurts really bad in the tricep area. I have 3 tats, one on the arm (bicep) that wasnt too bad, one on my right shoulder blade that kinda sucked and the one on my lower back that my hands kept sweating and my back muscles kept convulsing the whole time. The outline is the worst and when theyre done with that, the fill in color is a relief. I have found the best time to get a tat is when your mad and your body is full of adrenaline or endorphins or whatever.Good luck!

For 99.5% of the people, there is some, but easily bearable, pain: the remaining .05 % will flake out.
The degree of pain varies from person to person and according to the body part you chose. The main variable is to pick a good, professional Tattooist. Needles should be new and sterilized, good hygiene about the shop should be evident and you should be given both written follow up instructions and an ointment to prevent infection.
The two tattoos that I have received caused only a tingling sensation; I could not call it pain.

As a 30 year old man I would like to say that yes tattos hurt...however a moment after the artist starts working your endorphins kick in and its almost relaxing...now of course it always depends on where the tattoo is located...I have now had 3 large tattoos all in color and have had the same feeling with all three...once you get over the initial pain...the rest is a breese....however I would like to add....please think it through before getting one...make sure its something your going to love, enjoy, and make sure your doing it because you want to...not to preach but I got my first tattoo even thought I didnt want one...now I get them only when something dramatic happens in my life...loss of a parent...a child born...etc...just remember and I can tell you from experience...it hurts 3 times as much to have one taken off via lazer than it does to have one put on...and it cost about three times as much to have on removed...

There are many factors to the answer of your question. The pain of a tattoo depends on the following:

Location
Your personal pain tolerance
Size and scale of the design
Coloring

The least painful places to get a tatto are the ones where you find the least amount of nerves such as the inside of your forearm, 4 to 5 inches above the wrist.

The wrist is a painful place to get one (i have one there) but it isn't so bad. There are worse places to get one, such as your foot or the backs of your arms.

Yes it hurts a little, but not bad. Take a needle and drag it across your skin hard enough to make it bleed that is what it feels like but it lasts like 30 minutes or longer depending on the size of the tattoo.

It varies on where they are done, I have 10 total. The ones on my forearm and bicep I could have slept through, the one on my back (spine) got my attention, and the one on my elbow made me cry like a school yard *****. Other than that, the best description I have ever heard, is that it is like getting tickled with a nail.

I have a tatoo on my right ankle and it didn't hurt at all, honestly (everyones pain tolerance is different). Usually the closer you get to bone the more it will hurt. Just talk to whoever does your tatoo.
