Check these:
1. make sure you installed the driver
2. make sure you plug it into the right port (most people plug it in Mic port or something that is near)
3. make sure you switch the power on at the speaker.

There could be many reasons I can think of, just off my head...

Are your speakers powered on? Did you mute the volume control in your Windows? Did you turn on the volume on your speakers? Did you connect it to the right speaker input, or have you mis-plugged it into the mic input??? (They are usually pretty close to each other.)

Normally you computer would not be able to detect whether you HAVE plugged in your speakers or not. You'll only know it's connected properly if the speakers play some sounds. Hopefully this helps.

Sounds like they might not be connected properly. Also, check on your volume controls to make sure they're not muted.
