Okay... I have had my membranes stripped 3 times (I was confused until recently exactly what "stripping the membranes was... now knowing it is where your health care provider will separate your bag of water from your cervix). Well, as I was saying, I have had this done 3 times now - at 38 weeks, 39 weeks, and yesterday at 41 weeks. The first 2 times I had spotting for the rest of the day. However yesterday, even though she was quite rough, I didn't have any spotting. Well, this morning, I had a lot of contractions (not "regular" ranging from 5-15 minutes apart for about 4 hours). I have not had a contraction in about 5 hours now, and just went to the restroom and had a bit of mucus with some blood streaks in it. Anoyone out there know if you can still lose your mucus plug if the doctor strips your membranes or do you think this (more than 24 hours later) could be result of stripped membranes.... ???????? Thanks!!!!

Just because your doctor strips your membranes doesn't mean you will lose your mucus plug.... but yes you can lose your mucus plug a few hours to a day or so later after your doctor strips them. You can also lose your mucus plug weeks before you have your baby. Also, you may not even go into labor right away... but your contractions may be early labor! My doctor striped mine like 4 times and it didn't work (I had already been losing some of it... I just wanted to get going into labor) she even grabed the sack of water and tugged on it and nothing happened.... but the next day my water broke... but I don't know if it was all the stripping af the membranes or walking alot... maybe both!!! Well good luck and hope some of the info is helpful.... hope you have your baby soon... I feel for ya!!!!

I think you have lost your mucus plug and you are going into labour, I lost mine a the morning I gave birth about 5 hours later I started getting my contractions. At 41 weeks I don't think it has anything to do with the stripped membranes as it would more than likely have done it the first or second time. Good Luck and congrats.

The doctor stripped my membranes, and I had already lost my plug, but I had spotting and some yucky mucous, still. The plug, from what I understand, is something that can regenerate itself, that's why you can loose bits of it over a long period of time, and then when you finally 'lose it', there is still so much.

I had mine stripped twice- at 39 weeks and at 40 weeks, and I still didn't have any progress, so at 41 weeks, we scheduled an induction.

Good luck, and congrats on you soon-to-be newborn!

I just had a baby 2 months ago and they stripped mine like 4 times and i lost alot of mucus.I think that mucus you are losing may be your plug, cause the last time they stripped mine my water broke like 2 days after that.So I hope this hepls you and also have sex. That really helps.

you will still lose your mucus plug. my doc stripped my membranes at 37 weeks, and i lost my plug the next day (ick!)
however, if you're not going into labor, i'd ask about induction since you're past your due date. I was induced by having my bag of waters broken... no pitocin at all... good luck!
