He's more of an unsung hero. Indians are familiar with his name and the INA but then he is overshadowed by Mahatma Gandhi. I don't think anyone ever considers him evil, or a war criminal, its just that he didn't go with the Non-violence propaganda. But the cause of his death is still a big mystery and keeps coming in the news from time to time.

Yes a great hero against colonialism... i a world which was riddled by colonial powers, i think it was reasonable choice to support the enemy of your enemy plundering your country. India was a British colony and any self respecting individual would not like to ensure such a state to continue. Though his means were violent, he stood for the right cause. Whoever said the allies were not war criminals all along... only they were the winning side.

His activities were helped the India's freedom movement, but he was supported German NAZIs and tried to invite NAZIS into India. So he had positive side in India and negative side in Internatioal politics.
