This is crazy. First, why would the US ban Anime? It's not in national interest, it's not harmful or addictive, it's not a breach of national security, and it's not a threat to the well-being of Americans. It's like saying the US is going to ban collectible card games or scrapbooking. There's no logic behind it.
Second of all, what's a petition going to do, especially an online petition? The entire country could sign a petition, but the government can just ignore it.
Third of all, there's three main branches of the government. Is Congress trying to ban it? Saying that the "government" is trying to ban it is ridiculous. The mayor of a small town is "government", heck, the director of the sanitation commission is "government". It makes the most sense that a small town mayor thought Anime was dangerous and is trying to ban it, or a group of parents thought that all Anime was porn.
And finally, people push to ban things all the time. I could start a petition to ban thong strings from being shown, or the show "Who Wants to be a Superhero". It doesn't mean it goes anywhere, and it doesn't mean that anyone's going to really care that I'm going to ban it, especially since banning either is against the First Amendment.
On a side note, I'm sure I'm going to get this in an e-mail from one of my friends saying "OMG! Bush is trying to ban Anime!" Followed by some insults to the president, and a link to the petition.

Did you actually READ the petition? The one you linked to is a counter-petition, taking the opposite point of some other lame online petition that will never influence anyone...
Hey, I love anime. I have a shelf full of it. This petition though is a waste of time.

If they ban anime we'll just sue them for violating the Freedom of Press in Federal Court. I'd like to see what Mr. Roberts has to say about this.

The petition is poorly written, it doesn't seem very convincing. I am against them banning it though. However, I never heard a proposal to ban anime. If fact, I don't think they can, free trade. I would love to know your source of this though, please state your source...

My god, what will we do?!?!?!
Just Kidding. Guys, THE BAN-ANIME PETITION IS A HOAX! It was actually started by an anime watcher to see what would happen. It's not gonna happen because it isn't real.
