The Government would stop telling people how to live their lives. All you have to decide is that a good or a bad thing?

I believe it will be one more step in devaluing marriage in society. Many things have come before: no-fault divorce which can be gotten for any reason or no reason at all, the welfare state which has basically supplanted men and fathers as the support component of the family, and state laws which prohibit parents from imposing any kind of effective discipline on their children.

Hope I gave you some ideas for your essay. One more foot down the slippery slope.

The impact on society would be positive. This step would move us toward a more egalitarian society, and one that sees all people as equal and deserving of the right to "pursue happiness."

If gay marriage is allowed then it opens the door for people just living together to seek benefits from their employers for their significant other -- and the children of that significant other, even if the kids aren't their own.

I live in Massachusetts, I've noticed not really much. They are just people too. I have met some, and even dated bi chicks, but the bottom line is they are the same kind of people with all the same problems as anyone else.
