Friendly:
-Texas: The friendliest of them all! It's like a whole other country, culturally and historically, it's in a class of it's own...and I'm not even from there!
-Tennessee
-North Carolina (west of Charlotte)
-Alabama
-Georgia (outside of Atlanta)
-Mississippi
-Oklahoma
-Louisiana
-Michigan (surprisingly friendly!)
Least friendly:
-California...met very few people from there I even liked
-Ohio...probably 2nd worst
-New Jersey
-New York
-Illinois
-Florida
-Kentucky
-Maryland
The friendly states are ones which family values, manners, politeness, and common courtesy are (mostly) instilled in children even today. The states that aren't so friendly are ones that, while there are good people there (as there are everywhere,) people just seem to be harder to please and don't smile as much. (Kentucky, to me, is the most perplexing, because it's a "Southern" state. I guess you could say it's an insult to true Southerners to call Kentucky a Southern state.)

Another state that's not friendly: Kansas. Actually, I've never been there, but some of my relatives went out there a few years back, and they said Kansans were some of the meanest people you'd ever meet and they'll never go back. (And they never have a problem w/ people anywhere they go!)

I think Tennessee is the most friendly. I believe Indiana people are really terrible and make their state the worse.

I think Friendlyness(sic) is one of those you get what you give deals wherever you go. I drive a truck and can say that if you make the effort to be friendly you will usually find someone to return it. New York gets a bad rap from some of you but I 've been to NYC a lot and have never been mistreated there - even by a guy whose car I hit. The south is cool they show a lot of respect to people. I'm from Ohio and I don't see us as unfriendly but I'll work on it on a personal level. I have been a couple of places where the people act like they don't want you there - Kansas they're a little suspicious of you - Seattle area you're OK if you're not from LA. Nobody in Arizona is actually from there so they're hard to tell.

I've never been to the south but all the southern people i've ever met have have been exceptionally nice and thoughtful, i was working at an indian reservation in SD and I met a group from IL and out of 35 people 4 adults and one kid actually acted like we existed. Though its not all bad in IL. There are some friendly people. My favorite state is South Dakota when we were on the reservation there were gangs outside at nite and our friends would always come and check the locks (at midnite) and make sure we were safe. We were stargazing once in SD and someone pulled over to see if we were alright. Thats never happened in any other state.

The state of Jefferson is friendly. This area, which is comprised of southern Oregon and roughly the northern third of California, is conservative for the most part. We in (S)Oregon do not subscribe to the politics of Portand and those in N Cal do not have the the lack of values of So. Cal. The State of Jefferson has actually been proposed, starting in the early 20th century.

I was born and raised in Minnesota but left my heart in Texas. Not because of the people but because of the weather.
I can't really say which state has the or is the most friendly because having been in and/or through more then half of them I would say that friends are friends no matter where you are or go.
I hate Minnesota because of the weather conditions but loved Texas because of the weather conditions there.
On the internet I have talked/chatted with people in every state and haven't found one yet that wasn't friendly.

I think the Midwest states are the friendliest with the exception of Illinois...there is a reason people call them F.I.Bs
The least friendly would have to be the east coast New York especially

I went to Dallas Texas last summer and it was awful......... no other race socializes with another.......... everyone there thinks they are superior to everyone else. I was chased out of Virginia by a guy who had a shotgun....... Michigan people are just mean........... W. Virginians are the coolest people I have ever met......... I went to New York once and the people were pretty cool. Arkansas people are suspicious and rude. Kentucky people are not very helpful..... theytend to look the other way when someone needs help. Tennesee people are friendly and helpful. Canadians are the nicest people I have ever met. I am from Ohio. We tend to look out for our own.

In my experience I found Californians to be stressed, shallow, indifferent and not particulary bright and I lived there for 10 years.
Pennsylvanians to be the warmest and most friendly
Minnesotans quite friendly
New Yorkers friendly and helpful, post 9/11
Floridians too busy to be bothered
I was raised and now live in New England and love it and have nothing to praise or complain about.
I didn't spend enough time elsewhere to make any observations.

You're really generalizing way too much. It's unfair to say just because somone is from Kentucky they're not friendly.
I personally think Texas is the least friendly. If you're not into shooting guns, killing cows, and rodeos they don't talk to you. No thanks I'm not interested in your pig farm.
I would say smaller, close knit communities are friendlier and more caring than big cities. The bigger the city the less people care about anyone but themself.
