i am currently trying to fix up a 93 ford escort i know this might sound crazy but this car is very special to me and i would like to make it a little faster it has a 1.9 i am thinking to put a 2.3 to 3.0 or something along those lines it also may not sound crazy think about the other cars that have been fixed up these days

a 302 will,,and can be put in it,,i done one for my neighbor,and he really likes it,,its like a toy with a wind up spring,,it goes wild when you get on it,,gets a little light too,,i own a repair shop,,and we do all kinds of cars that people say cant be done,,i had a Mazda 626 with a 350 Chevy engine in it,,it was fun to drive,,but i know you can stuff a 302 in it,,and it will be a really sweet ride,,but you need to be good with a cutting torch,,and a welder,,hope this help,s.

Unless you want some major hacking up the car for a V8 / rear wheel drive conversion, the most powerful motor that is a direct swap would be to install a Mazda KLZE 2.5 liter V6. This motor has 200 hp and installs using Mazda MX3 motor mounts. It is a rather involved swap, but if you search for KLZE swaps into an MX3 you should have enough information to get started.
