Because of different economies and different ways that employees are paid via industry. I live in Massachusetts and the state is debating rasing the minimum wage to $8.00. Masachusetts also happens to be one of the most expensive places to live. $5.25 will not cut it here-- but it is much more managable in Florida where the cost of living is a little bit more sane.

Also certain industries like the food service allow servers (tipped employees) to make around $2.25 as their minimum wage, but that is supplimented by the tips that they earn. Ultimately it depends on the local economy and the industry one is in.

Minimum wage only is good for the Labor Unions.. They get a pay raise based on the minimum wage.

I would bet if you took that away from them, they would not ask for a raise so much!

So, you'd want the value of your work decided by the value of some other country, whether the dollar was over or undervalued?

Your becoming a globalist, and in our age that is as evil as being a robber baron in days past.
