Basically they all believe that only theirs is the one true religion, unfortunately many of the different sects also regard Christians and Jews as infidels rather than believers of the Old (or New) Testament, and some believe that there is coming a final battle of Armageddon that will pit true Muslims against Jews and Christians. This is why the more radical Islamists consider it positive to kill Christians, Jews, Agnostics and anyone else not of their faith (to include some other Muslim Sects) through acts of terror.

Shi'ah muslims believe that the descendents of the prophet Muhammad might want to rule the muslim community at the same time as Sunni muslims believe that the nearest attendant to the prophet might want to rule the muslim community. They fought and the Sunni received organising different muslim dynasties. through the years Shi'ahism will be perverted with the aid of "prophets" who declare to have direct connection with ALLAH. AKA twelver Shi'ahism. Sunni will be perverted with the aid of kings who imagine they comprehend extra effective than ALLAH. Shi'ah and Sunni are between 80 and ninety% an same, some thing is the politics of rulership and the mild perversion of the teachings of the prophet Muhammad (i ought to enter how badly the stuff the prophet stated is corrupted for extraordinarily own ability yet that'd be an rather a lot under no circumstances ending rant). i will verify up later if there needs extra clarification.

Sunni Muslims attempt to follow the teachings and example set by Rasul'Allah Muhammad (SAS) and follow the Qur'an and the Prophet's Sunnah (accounts of his teachings and examples from his daily life)

Shi'ite Muslims Believe that Ali was in some way on an equal plane with the Prophet of God (SAS) and even believe that Gabriel (not kidding here folks) MADE A MISTAKE!!! and was supposed to give Gods holy book and message to Ali. While they do respect and believe in the Prophet Muhammad (SAS) they also hold extremely high esteem for Ali.

Shi'ite Muslims also have many strange and Haram (forbidden) rituals and practices which in no way represent true Islam. I have seen some of these disturbing and bizarre rituals myself and am here to tell you that they IN NO WAY REPRESENT TRUE ISLAM!!!!!

Not all Shi'ite Muslims practice or believe in all of these beliefs and rituals, as they tend to take on a unique flavor in different localities, but none the less they believe in One All Powerful God, and all of his Messengers, So they are Muslims.

Sunnis are more traditional, and would most often tend to be more moderate, but of course if you were to watch the 24 hour media, you would have a very twisted and propagandized view of Sunnis, Shi'ites, and all Muslims in general.

"An old Arab proverb goes, 'Me against my brother; me and my brother against our cousin; and me, my brother and my cousin against the stranger,"' he went on. "Forced to make a choice, Sunni Arabs are deciding: The Jews are cousins; the Shiites, strangers."

Islam is a political system as well as a religious one. There is no separation of church (masjid) and state under Islam. The head of the state is a religious leader in an Islamic Republic like Iran.

Sunni and Shi'a Muslims appear to be fighting over who has power and control in the country as in Iraq.

The original rift came in 632 after the death of the Prophet Muhammad when a successor was to be chosen. Shi'a follow Ali, the cousin of Muhammad. There are minor theological differences. In Shia Islam there is a strong theme of martyrdom and suffering, focusing on deaths of Ali and, particularly, Hussein plus other important figures in the Shia succession.

Leaders in some predominantly Sunni countries such as Pakistan, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have forged peace alliances with the US and are not supportive of Hezbollah's jihad in Lebanon. But Sunni Muslims within the countries countries do support Hezbollah because of its willingness to fight Israel.

Sunni militia groups like Al-Qaida are vocally supportive of Hezbollah but have yet to send people to fight.

Shiites account for some 160 million of the Islamic world's population of 1.3 billion people. Shiites account for about 90 percent of Iran's population, more than 60 percent of Iraq's, and some 50 percent of the people living in the arc of territory from Lebanon to India.

Did you hear the story about the frog and the scorpion?

One day a scorpion asks a frog to carry him across a river because the scorpion can't swim.

"Are you kidding", says the frog, "if I let you get on my back you will sting me and kill me".

"No I won't, honest", says the scorpion. "What good would that do me. If I did, then I would fall in the river and we would both die. Please, just help me across the river."

Finally the frog agreed and with the scorpion on his back he began swimming across the river. About half way across the river, the frog felt a sharp, burning sting and his muscles became paralyzed.

"Why?", croaked the frog as the current carried them both away to certain death.

"Because its in my nature", replied the scorpion.
