i lived there for about 9 years from the age of 11. i went to licoln international school. it was usually pretty safe there but of course there were times when it wasn't. use common sense and caution with all things you do over there from swimming in the lake to where you go out to eat. i was last there in 2000 so things will have inevitably changed alot but it seems that the country has been reasonably stable since then. museveni did a pretty good job all things considered. i used to drive my own car around, go camping in the bush, go out to bars at night and had only small problems that you might encounter anywhere. for a 2 year old, staying wither at kindergaten or at home, it should be a great place to grow up! nature, great weather, the lake, the people, the opportunities. yea, i miss uganda alot and wouldn't hesitate to take my kid there. again though....... common sense and caution!!! get to know people while you are there. go to the american club (open to all) and family hang outs (sheraton etc). you dont need to be a paranoid but ears and eyes open. wish you luck!!!! am a bit jealous of you going over there also!!!! i loved it.
