I'm leaving out all of the gender expectations. I'm gay, so this just applies to all my relationships (friendships too, for that matter). There comes a point where you start to feel that the other person isn't interested; they're too polite or too nice or too whatever to just say "Yeah, leave me alone", so they'll talk when you get ahold of them etc. But you start to feel that they might just not be into you. So, you figure that at some point the ball's in their court. If they're interested, they'll contact you.
