Probably because the East Asia is big market for business today. That is why when Westerns say Asia, people imagine the area of the East Asia. And what kind of culture do you imagine when you hear "Asia"? Is it Chinese? Japanese? or Indonesian?
China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan are so called East Asia.
Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar and Laos are South East Asia (S.E.A)
India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and others are South Asia.
Russia is racially and geographically little bit different from Asia.

Well they are all Asian, but when you start talking about the Russians and the Indians (from India) they look different from the Asians from places like China and Japan, so they are called Russian and Indian to differentiate between those who look more similar. They are different color, and if someone says they are Asian, you would think tan skin, but if you say Russian or Indian, you would think white and brown skin. It is just a way to tell them apart, but they are all still Asian

Honestly, I think most people refer to someone as "Asian" because they don't want to be rude and call a Korean person Chinese or a Japanese person Korean. They don't do it in a mean or racial way. I'm friends with many people of Chinese/Japanese/Korean background and I know it's offensive to call them another origin.

Firstly they are more refered to as Orientals.
Asian is a term used group / classify people from Asian Countries.
Russia is part of Europe and thus Russians are commonly group as 'Eurasions'
Its like why are Maxicans, Brazillians, Argentinians refered to South Americans ?
Hope these answers your question.

well because people from those countries have physical traits that are different from those of Indians or Russians so they usually aren't grouped together.
