Take a look around. It is very rare that anyone that goes off to college will marry their high school sweetheart. That is even if they both go off to college together. College opens your eyes and makes you realize that high school love is simply child's play. The world is so much bigger and more complex than a high school student can imagine. As you grow up a little, you begin to think of people and relationships in a different way. I know the analogy doesn't exactly fit, but I think you'll get the point. High school love is the very first step, like addition and subtraction are in math. As you get better and better in math, addition and subtraction seem so insignificant. When you finally learn calculus, addition and subtraction seem so childish and insignificant. The same thing happens with high school relationships, we look back on them and laugh at how cute they were, but we also get a little embarrassed because we were such dorks for making the relationships out to be so much more than they really are.
If you want to do the right thing, I recommend getting over it. The faster you do, the faster you will grow and gain wisdom. Before long it will all be just fond memories and you will have learned so much more about love and relationships.
